Ron Mazellan served as a faculty member and Division Chair at Indiana Wesleyan University in the Division of Art + Design. He taught Illustration and served as the program coordinator for more than twenty-five years. Throughout his academic tenure, he was deeply committed to transformational education and student mentoring while seeking out and applying innovative outcomes to encourage lifelong learning.
Alongside his role as a Professor, his work as an Illustrator enriched such books as New York Times Bestsellers; You Can Be A Friend, by Tony and Lauren Dungy, and The Longest Season, by Cal Ripken Jr. Other notable titles include The Harmonica, Finding Daddy, A is for Abraham, and There Come Soldier. In addition, Ron has been awarded, The NAACP Image Award Winner and Christopher Award for You Can Be A Friend. The Gelett Burgess Award and Sydney Taylor Honor Book, for Irena’s Jars of Secrets. The Sydney Taylor Honor Book and The Skipping Stones Honor Award, A is for Abraham. In addition, his illustrations selected the jury have appeared in Communication Arts Illustration Annual 52, Creative Quarterly, The Journal of Art and Design, and The Society of Illustrators 48th Annual of American Illustration.
Ron holds a BA from Wheaton College, an MA from California State University at Fullerton, and an MFA from the University of Hartford.
